It all started on two bikes

Well, not quite. It all started on two bikes. Road bikes to be exact for a Spring training ride when handsome grooms Fred and Trevor met. They kept ru nning into each other at different functions and parties and they had a first date in 2012. After a lot of miles #2cyclistswed in early October 2017 in Sonoma, CA just a day before the devastating wine country fires in 2017. Fred and Trevor were surrounded by friends and family to celebrate their love. Fred is a very good friend and I offered to do the flowers so I planned with them the design for the florals for their fall chic outdoor wedding at the Sonoma Barracks, a historic venue in downtown Sonoma. Fred loves blue hydrangeas so I found a local hydrangea grower at Green Valley Growers in Sebastopol, CA and two friends Jennifer and Marie were going to help me with florals for destination wedding. Because my husband and I both are friends of Fred we were also going to be guests at the wedding. But as life happens, both of my children were sick with one trip to the local children’s hospital and I had to find a local florist to ensure that Fred and Trevor had flowers on their day because I couldn’t travel as my husband was in NY. Long story but suffice to say Fred and Trevor are happily married now, they got hitched without a hitch, and they had blue hydrangeas plus some thanks to my floral guardian angel Diane of La Belle Fleur Design and our good friends Jennifer and Marie who picked up the flowers and assisted Diane at the venue. My favorite floral installation for their wedding was their commuter bikes each with flowers. They made their entrance to the venue on their bikes which is so reflective of their shared love of biking and also how they left with Just Married signs on the back of their bikes. A tandem bike would have been fun but their commuter bikes worked out well. If you need flowers in Santa Rosa, CA please call on Diane at La Belle Fleur. She has a heart of gold and she is an excellent designer.

Fred and Trevor were sweet and understanding and said I was the “artistic director” for their celebration so in light of that, I wanted to share their pictures taken by Tom Hood even though I didn’t actually get to design the flowers or attend the wedding, I did the concepts and ordering of the flowers etc. from afar. That night, at home in rainy Seattle, I put on my dress and toasted love and happiness wishes to Fred and Trevor with a glass of champagne. Illness, emergency wedding flowers and wildfires didn’t dampen their wedding celebration as you can see from their pictures. The floral palette was blue, green and white and flowers were hydrangea, green lotus pods, podocarpus, Queen Anne’s Lace, porcelain berry, privet, rosemary and ivy. Cheers to Fred and Trevor – may you have many more miles together!
